FAQ Aromatherapy Classes Questions & Answers

What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy refers to the inhalation and topical application of pure essential oils distilled from aromatic plants to restore or enhance health, beauty and well-being. For some this means simply diffusing oils to enhance the psyche; while for others this includes seeking deeper, therapeutic action as a means of self-healing or as a preventative method.

Are all supplies included in the cost of your aromatherapy classes?

All supplies including essential oils, bottles, labels, and manuals are included with our in-person classes. However, online courses are different. Online students will have access to the online materials and receive textbooks via USPS or UPS but are responsible for purchasing their own supplies such as oils and bottles for completing activities at home and for case studies. We do offer supplies kits for Level 1 and Level 2 in our shop, however, these are optional. You may use your own oils and purchase supplies from elsewhere.

Do Essential Oils Need to be Therapeutic Grade?

The terms “therapeutic grade,” “certified pure therapeutic grade,” “food grade,” pharmaceutical grade,” and “medical grade” are not regulated terms in the United States by the FDA. They therefore have little meaning and are often used by MLM companies simply for marketing purposes. We encourage anyone seeking to purchase oils to only obtain them from reputable source who are capable of providing GC/MS and physical analyses. Bottles should be labeled with both the common and botanical name of the plant from which the essential oil is distilled.

Who will benefit from your Aromatherapy Certification Program?

Just about everyone could benefit from taking our courses in aromatherapy, especially those who desire to improve or maintain their health naturally. From a professional standpoint, this list includes Health Care Practitioners such as Nurses, Midwives, Chiropractors, Psychologists, Psychotherapists, Physical Therapists, homemakers, Teachers, Pastors, Counselors and Cosmetologists. Other practices such as Holistic Therapists such as Therapeutic Touch Practitioners, Massage Therapists, Reflexologists, and Reiki Practitioners would also benefit and enhance their practice.

When I take your course, will I be able to call myself an Aromatherapist?

Yes, once you complete the Level 1 Aromatherapy Certification Program you can call yourself an Aromatherapist. After completion of our Aromatherapy Certification Level 2 Program (200+ hours), plus case studies and an 8-10 page research paper you will be certified as a Certified Aromatherapist. When taking individual courses, you may receive a certificate of completion with the designated hours for that course.

Do you offer Continuing Education Units or Credits?

We are approved for CEU’s credits through the NCBTMB.org (National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork) in all 50 states. Our in-person Aromatherapy Certification 4-day course is 30 CEUs, and our Aromatherapy Online courses Level 1 is 50 CEUs and Level 2 is 200 CEUs.

What is the Difference between Level 1 and Level 2 courses?

Our Aromatherapy Certification Program is divided into two levels – Level 1 and Level 2. Level 1 is the starting point for anyone who wants to become certified as an aromatherapist. Our Online Level 1 course is 100-hours and exceeds the requirements for NAHA’s Foundations Level 1 requirements (50 hours). At level 1, you will study 20+ essential oils in depth, the botany of plants, extraction methods, blending techniques, the interaction on physical and emotional levels, history of aromatherapy, carrier oils, safety and contraindications, methods of application and absorption, business skills such as performing consultations and FDA labeling guidelines, and two body systems (limbic and lymphatic) as part of your anatomy. You will need to complete Level 1 in order to proceed to Level 2. Level 2 is a much more in-depth study of the chemistry of essential oils, as well as a complete study of anatomy and physiology covering the body systems and diseases that effect those systems and which oils can effectively help support those body systems. Level 2 will cover an additional 30+ essential oils. Our Level 2 course is over 200+ hours exceeds NAHA’s requirements for Level 2 certification.
